I am sure that exciting things happen each week in the Sunday School classes at your church. There’s no reason to keep this excitement a secret! Remember to share the joy of Sunday School with your entire congregation and anyone else who uses your building during the week. Consider having a brainstorming session on this topic with your Sunday School teachers. Here are some ideas to get you started thinking…

Show

  • Encourage teachers to use wall space in the classroom or hallway to display artwork.
  • Invite teachers to have their class decorate a bulletin board.
  • Take pictures and put them on display. Or use them to create a slide show.

Tell

  • Feature one of the Sunday School classes in your church newsletter or bulletin. This could be a weekly or monthly feature.
  • Publish information about monthly or unit themes.
  • Utilize table tents.

Think outside the room

  • Encourage classes to seek out ministry opportunities in your church that they can participate in together. A class might host the hospitality area one Sunday a month, or serve as greeters, or sharpen pencils for the attendance pads.
  • Find reasons for Sunday School classes to visit each other. Have a class practice a skit or make a snack to share with another class. Have several classes work together on a special project.
  • Seek out opportunities for class activities that invite congregational participation. A service project to collect items for the local food pantry is one example.

Remember that these ideas are not limited to children’s and youth Sunday School classes. Adult classes can also be encouraged to spread the news about their activities.
