Christian educators tend to fall into one of two camps: those with organized supply closets, and those who have a more scattershot approach to the "stuff" of ministry. If you're in the former group, bravo! Your teachers undoubtedly are grateful for your obsessive, compulsive approach to storage. (And keep reading for a chance to be rewarded!) If you're in the latter group (as I tend to be), don't fret! We're launching a community-based effort and contest to get your stuff stashed or trashed, labeled, and maintained...with awesome prizes as an incentive to take part.

Everyone can participate! Here's how to enter...

If your closets are already neat and tidy...

  1. Take some digital photos of one of your most organized church (or ministry setting) closets. (Required)
  2. Choose your best photo and post it on the official entry page, on or after December 14, 2009. (Required)
  3. Add a paragraph or two about why your church closets deserve to be labeled "Champion Church Closets," and fill in the rest of the fields. (Required)
  4. Share your best tips for getting and keeping church closets organized by posting them to this blog entry. (Optional, but requested.)

If your closets need work...

  1. Take some digital photos of one of your most disorganized church/ministry closets. (Required)
  2. Choose your best "Before" photo and save it for later somewhere on your computer. (Recommended)
  3. Get that closet clean and organized. See the tips posted below for ideas, and try to make it a community effort within your church. You are not required to purchase organizational supplies, but feel free to do so.
  4. Take some "After" photos of your newly organized closet. (Required)
  5. Choose your best photo and post it on the official entry page, on or after December 14, 2009. (Required)
  6. Add a paragraph or two about how you got your church closet organized. (Required)
  7. Keep that closet neat and tidy from now on. Enlist the support of others (teachers, leaders, staff members, members with good organizational skills) to ensure things stay organized.

I'm not interested in showing off my awesome/awful closet, but I'd still like to take part.

  1. Great! Post your tips in the comments below...
  2. ...then come back for the voting phase to help select the winners!

OK, so I've entered (or plan to). Now what happens?

  1. Take a moment to pat yourself on the back for your completed or pending accomplishment!
  2. The staff of DifferentVoice.com will review all entries and will choose 6 finalists—3 who had previously clean closets, and 3 who didn't.
  3. Voting will commence! All registered users of DifferentVoice.com may vote for the person they think has the Champion Closet.
  4. Someone (or rather 3 someones) will be declared Champion Closet Cleaners and will have eternal bragging rights. Plus, they'll each win a great prize.

Tell me about the prizes already!

  1. First prize: 1 new church or ministry website. Includes domain name registration and 1 year of hosting, plus up to 10 hours of consultation, design, copy editing, and training. (Additional hours may be purchased at a discounted rate, if desired. The cost of a Premium template, if chosen, will be the responsibility of the winner.) The site will be built using the WordPress content management system (although this is negotiable.) Basic training on how to update or modify the site will be provided. If the winner already has a website and would prefer redesign services, up to 10 hours of consultation, project management, and/or copy editing will be offered for the redesign of one existing site (but not graphic design, website coding, and most other technical work, which will be the responsibility of the winner.) Approximate retail value: $500.
  2. Second prize: 1 hour of Christian education and/or technology consultation (by phone) with the staff of DifferentVoice.com. Approximate retail value: $100.
  3. Third prize: 1 copy of the CD "J-Walking: Songs for Justice Walkers" by Bryan Sirchio, plus 1 copy of our forthcoming lesson book based on its songs. Approximate retail value: $25.
  4. All entrants will receive two ebooks that will benefit your ministry online: a book on copywriting for the web, and a mystery book. Who knows, maybe we'll find some other good stuff to add too. Approximate retail value: $14.

Official rules. (Just realize we're not lawyer types, so we may have forgot some little detail.)

  1. Only one entry per church or ministry. Even if you have lots of cluttered closets.
  2. No purchase is required or expected, though entrants may, if they wish, purchase organizational supplies at their own expense.
  3. The contest begins on December 14, 2009 and ends at 11:59 PM CST on March 14, 2010. That's plenty of time, so no excuses!
  4. All entries must be submitted via the contest webpage on DifferentVoice.com (which will be live on December 14, 2009).
  5. The staff of DifferentVoice.com will choose 6 finalists from among all entries submitted, 3 who previously had an organized closet and 3 who have a newly organized closet. In the event that 3 or fewer entries are received for a category, then all entrants for that category will automatically advance to the voting round.
  6. Voting will commence on March 17, 2010 and will end at 7:00 PM CST on March 31, 2010. Only registered members of DifferentVoice.com may vote.
  7. Prizes will be awarded on April 2, 2010. In the event of a tie, a second 48-hour run-off vote will be held to decide the winner, and the prizes will be awarded shortly thereafter.
  8. The first place winner will have up to 6 months to begin the website design process or will forfeit the prize.
