In the first edition of this series, I named 5 of my favorite places to go for downloadable videos for youth ministry and Christian education settings. Here are six others I would suggest checking out...
SermonSpice is chock full of video clips appropriate for sermons and talks; unfortunately, it's also got plenty of clips with less-than-desirable theology, so be prepared to search a while. Most clips cost $10-20.
WingClips offers clips from Hollywood movies that can be used in any church setting, even if your church does not have a CVLI license. The free subscription just gives you a very small video; to get the bigger sizes, you'll have to pay $139 a year. Still, if you use a lot of video clips in worship or CE settings, it could be a bargain and very convenient.
MetaCafe is a popular YouTube-like site, but the quality is (in my experience) generally better. Please be sure to make sure the "Family Filter" is on if you use this in a computer lab setting.
Vimeo is a similar site with even higher video quality and lots of artistic and professional-looking videos. Lots of great content here.
The Nooma videos are extremely popular for young adult and adult CE settings, and they are now available in two formats: DVD, or "View Now" (which only allows a single viewing). Rob Bell's theology is not quite as progressive as someone like Borg or Spong, but he's extremely well-read and thought-provoking and the videos work well in many contexts.
Zimbio can get rather annoying with its ever-present pop culture pictures and links, but those with the patience to dig a bit can often be rewarded with many great articles and videos.
In future emails, I'll share additional clip sources, tips for selecting better videos, ideas for creating your own clips, the best places to share your videos, and more. If you have suggestions, add 'em to our blog!
