According to Netcraft, in April 2009 there were 231,510,169 websites. If you were to look at each website for 1 minute (we’re talking a quick perusal here) it would take you 440 years to view them all. Of course, this is also a moving target; there are more websites now than there were in April and it is impossible to predict the state of technology 440 years from now. Statistics like this make me grateful for search engines!
Considering the number of websites in existence, I am delighted when I discover a good progressive Christianity website. And when I do so, I am eager to share my find with our readers through The Daily Voice and the links pages on our website. I recently discovered such a site, the website of The Beatitudes Society.

According to the website, “the Beatitudes Society develops and sustains emerging Christian leaders as they build a progressive network for justice, compassion and peace as expressed in the Beatitudes.” In addition to more information about the Beatitudes Society, you will also find here a blog which includes Preacher’s Post, reflections on each week’s lectionary scriptures. The job board has postings for a variety of jobs across the country. There is also a social networking site for members of the Beatitudes Society. Membership is free; you simply sign up. Fairly extensive resources pages include book recommendations, downloadable articles and links to other websites of interest.
I discovered The Beatitudes Society by following a link posted by a friend on Facebook. Since it is unlikely that any one of us has 440 years (without sleep) to peruse websites, it is important that we share sites of interest with those we know via links on our own websites, posting links on blogs and social networking sites, emailing recommendations to friends and spreading the news by word of mouth (the old-fashioned way). My recommendation to you today is that you take some time to check out The Beatitudes Society and then share their website and Different Voice with your friends!
