The likelihood is that most of the "Technology Tuesdays" emails will be written by me (Tim). Simply put, I'm a bit of a tech geek, and Sally's not. On my computer right now, I have at least 280 different applications, and I use - well, definitely not all of them, but quite a few at least occasionally. I subscribe to various tech magazines, listen to MP3s about fun stuff like SEO (search engine optimization), and can't resist a trip down the electronics aisle at most any store...
For reasons I can't quite always fathom as a techie, a lot of Christian educators are not tech savvy. Somehow, the gene that causes one to know how to hook up a VCR just never got activated. If you're one of those people—but still like to have some sense of what's going on in the world of technology—read on.
Here is a list of my favorite Tech Stops for the Technologically Challenged. Just listen to these podcasts or read the emails, and you'll be ready to chime in when the topic turns to tech at your next teachers meeting, youth group session, or church fundraiser.
- National Public Radio Technology has stories everyone can understand about the digital world, in print or via podcast.
- Christian Computing Magazine - for anyone who wants to know what new tools are being used by other congregations. Theologically it's pretty conservative, but the information is often helpful. Sign up for their free email. (Is it really still a magazine when it's only in digital form? Commence debate...)
- Future Tense® - another short email/podcast combo that brings you the latest in tech news in 5-minute daily capsules.
- MacDailyNews is one of the places I go to keep up with, um, Mac-related daily news.
- If you're a PC person, your choices are a lot harder. A quick stop by PCMagazine will suffice.
Have a favorite of your own? Post it to our blog!
