I am a list maker. I make to-do lists, planning lists and check lists. Simply making the list makes me feel productive! And truthfully, lists do help me remember things and keep me on task. At the beginning of a Sunday School year, I wondered what type of checklist would be helpful for Sunday School teachers. I came up with two lists. The first list is probably the one most Sunday School teachers use, either written or mentally. The second list may be even more important.
Sunday School Teacher’s Checklist
- Bible
- Lesson plan
- Take home papers
- Copies made
- Supplies gathered
- Attendance sheet and stickers
- Room ready
- Worship center set up
Sunday School Teacher’s Checklist
- Smile
- Welcoming attitude
- Flexibility
- Compassion
- Awareness of age-appropriate actions
- Willingness to learn as well as teach
- Openness to the Spirit
- Eyes that see each student as God’s child
An idea: Consider printing these lists on the front of a piece of paper or card stock and presenting them to Sunday School teachers at the beginning of the Sunday School year. If you have access to a laminator, use it to add durability.
