Across the nation on Tuesday, progressives spoke loudly and clearly. They are ready for change, declaring that the status quo has got to go. What an exciting time to be alive! What an accomplishment we have witnessed!
Progressives are speaking loudly and clearly in our churches, too. People are ready for a different form of Christianity to take root and grow, one unlike what they see in most mega-churches and many small churches too. Educators are increasingly asking for curriculum that fits with their theology. Google searches for terms like "progressive Christianity" and "welcoming church" are on the rise. There is reason to have hope, and not only because we have just elected a presidential candidate who made that word a centerpiece of his campaign.
Here at Different Voice, we're anxious to help you to grow, to better serve your congregation, and to provide you with the tools and resources you need and want. Truth be told, this site has been a dream since June 21 of 2000, which was the date when the domain name was reserved. The plans have been in the works for a long, long time.
But as we attempted to say in an email a couple of days ago (one which you only received in part), there are a zillion details to take care of when you begin a business. Which webhost and website developer to use? Mac or PC? Which of the umpteen logos do we like best? And currently the one we're wrestling with: is our daily email delivery method one we can live with?
After a few test runs, we've pretty much decided the answer to that last one is no. So, we're back into searching-testing-evaluating mode again. As a result, we plan to delay the official launch of the site a few more days, and some features of the site will take a bit longer. But what's a few more days after an 8-year wait, right? :-)
You may get one or two test emails (after this one) in the next few days as we work out the bugs. If you do, please let us know if you like the format. In addition, you'll probably need to re-subscribe to the email so that we can be sure we comply with the CAN-SPAM law. (We'll let you know when and how to do that.)
